Sin City Cabaret Chain Drapery

Our InSync Chain Drapery is 100% anodized aluminum chain link that comes in shiny or matte colors. InSync Chain works as a window covering or a wall treatment.

We just completed a custom Chain Drapery project at Sin City in Long Island City, NY. As you can see from the below pictures, we worked with the client to design their choice of silhouettes, company logo and color scheme to match the room decor. Our Chain Draperies give the client to ultimate flexibility in design and function.

The images are virtually limitless, with an original picture we can create a full fledged image or silhouette (as seen below).

Daylighting Strategies for The Office

Most existing office space either lacks from enough natural light or suffers from glare caused by too much sunlight. This requires Architects to remedy this problem with an Engineered Daylighting Solution.
Finding a solution offers many benefits which include:

• Healthier and higher quality interior environments for occupants
• Increased individual productivity
• Increased human comfort
• Mental and visual stimulation necessary for the proper regulation of human brain chemistry

Direct sunlight can cause visual discomfort as you can see in the graphic below:

Shade Mapping

Shade Mapping by InSync Solar

There are many stories of projects on where we come in late. This is when the contractor is looking for a shade vendor after the Architect is long finished with the plans. Sometimes the plans and specs are fine and all goes well. More often however, we find many complicated issues due to missing details. These details includes such things as:

  • Inadequate power supply specified for motorized shades.
  • Pockets where the shades do not fit
  • Illegal locations of junction boxes for power termination
  • Missing wood blocking for shade mounting.
  • Poorly thought out selection of shade controls
  • Bad choices of fabrics for heat reflection or glare control

The result may be significant and costly change orders. As you can see in the cartoon below, it hits home for everyone involved.

Daylight Harvesting

The concept of SolarBlade is to harvest the natural daylight into the room. This thenoffsets the amount of electricity needed to properly light a space which then reduces energy consumption. An ideal showcase for an Engineered Daylighting Solution.

This sustainable concept of harvesting natural daylight is a major goal for any LEED project. However, the USGBC has recognized the draw back of such harvesting. Here is a quote from their website: “Glare control is perhaps the most common failure in Daylighting strategies. Large windows provide generous amounts of daylight. If not controlled, properly, this daylight can produce unwanted glare and affect interior lighting quality. Measures to control glare include light shelves, louvers, blinds, fins, and shades… Glare control is required for each window.”

Division 12: Product Lab

Off the shelf products are rarely the best ideas for creating Engineered Shading Solutions. Here at InSync Solar, we address challenges in our Division 12 Product Lab. Every day we are asked to come up with some clever solution brought to us from the architects and designers who rely upon us to do just that.

We have designed and created digital control systems for The Park Avenue Armory that integrates with their theatrical requirements. For West Point Military Academy, the Division 12 Product Lab has designed custom double roller systems to snake the fabric bands around tight spaces. Currently, the Lab is working on solutions for a large glass solarium for an Upper East Side townhome.

Engineered Shading Solutions are the window coverings of today’s Dynamic Façade. No longer an afterthought, these products are considered as important as other building systems, such as HVAC and lighting.

The Division 12 Lab team consists of the best minds in the industry. We welcome your projects and challenges.

Division 12: The Architects News

The Construction Specification Institute, known as CSI, creates for the Architectural community the specification codes known as the MasterFormat. MasterFormat is the master list of titles and numbers used to organize specifications and other project information for most commercial building design and construction projects in North America. While this is a very helpful tool for Specifiers, the codes for Window Treatments 12 20 00 are literally obsolete.

Here is a list of the division codes for 12 20 00 Window Treatments:

Description

The MasterFormat Codes for Window Treatments is under Division 12.   Several of these codes are no longer relevant in the industry. Some of   the products listed had their best days over 30 years ago, such as Metal   Vertical Louver Blinds (12 21 16.13).

An Architect’s Guide to the New Division 12 takes a fresh look at the   codes and presents an updated version for specifiers. This session   focuses on Solar and Blackout Shades for Interior, Exterior and Skylight   solutions.

The goal of the presentation is to demonstrate to the Architect how to design and specify successful Engineered.
